What is one common misconception about Hawaii’s climate issues?

“A common misconception is that climate issues in Hawai‘i are primarily environmental concerns disconnected from businesses and local communities. In reality, climate change impacts are deeply intertwined with economic and social well-being.”

Rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and sea level rise affect workforce productivity, supply chains, and community resilience. Addressing climate challenges requires a systemic approach, involving not just folks concerned about our climate but also businesses, policymakers, and local stakeholders.

What is one thing you would like readers to know about your organization or climate change in general?

Climate Hawai‘i would like readers to know that addressing climate change in Hawai‘i is not just about protecting the environment—it’s about safeguarding our communities, culture, and way of life. Hawai‘i is on the frontlines of the climate crisis, facing rising sea levels, more frequent and intense storms, and threats to our unique ecosystems and local food systems. By taking bold, collaborative action now, we can build a resilient, sustainable future that honors our state’s values. Everyone has a role to play, and together, we can ensure that Hawai‘i remains a thriving home for generations to come.
