Every day you sit through traffic. You race to a job you dislike. You wait to get home in hopes you’ll steal just a few minutes for yourself. Days turn into years. One day, you wonder where the time went and if you will ever live a meaningful life.
Sure there are vacations, and other memorable days that temporary relieve the sting of not tuning into yourself. But you will always be resentful and in agony over not spending the time to figure out who you are, what you want, and how you can leave an impression on your children, and the world.
I know how you feel because I was there too. Some days I still get stuck in that loop. How do I get everything done and still have time leftover for me? How do I achieve the things I want to achieve without sacrificing time with my kids or money for the future?
It’s not easy and like anything in life, there are no easy answers. But there are things you can do every day that will eventually get there.
You can do it on your own by committing to one small act of change daily.
If you want to finish a book, for example, you can schedule specific times during your day to write.
You can join or start your own writer’s group like I did.
You can take an online writing class.
You can work together with a friend who will hold you accountable for your tasks. You can meet regularly once a week or on the phone once a month to do a check in.
What rewards will you get if you do that one thing? Remember it vividly. Visualize what you will feel like and who you will be once you accomplish that goal.
The one thing that I’ve done that has really quicken the pace and pushed me to take big risks was to hire a coach.
Hiring a coach made me do things I’d never do like create a stress management group for moms, speak at a local HMSA mom’s event, and create and lead spirituality and writing groups. I did this all in less than a year.
Now I’m excited to work with my own clients helping them to achieve their dreams.
I’m a writer at heart and love using the written word to open the door to people’s hearts. But I’ve also found that helping others is just as magical.
What will you do now to invest in your future in 2018 and beyond? I’d love to hear what you’re currently working on.
Just to let you know I’m scheduling new clients right now so contact me at bauyemura@gmail.com if you’d like more info. I’m also working on my first e-book. If you’d like to be the first to know when it comes out, subscribe here.
