If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve already seen some of these. But I have a few new photos for you too.
Almost every year since the kids were born, I’ve made their costume. My first DIY Halloween costume ever was hand sewing Bamm-Bamm. I still have the tiny cloth tucked away in a shoe box.
Last year, I sewed a felt bowling ball for one child and bowling pin for the other because my son loved bowling. But this was the first year that I let them choose what they wanted to be. I didn’t think I’d be able to swing it. Thomas the Train was beyond my meager sewing skills. But try googling it. All the felt options are ridiculously expensive when the cost of felt squares are like 28 cents.
A craft store worker told me, “You’ll figure it out. All mom’s do.” So that’s what I did. Thankfully putting together a ninja outfit is pretty easy. No sewing involved. Just a hooded long sleeve with sweatpants from Ross and a black long sleeve shirt from Walmart tied around his face with a lighted sword under a dollar from Walmart was all it took to create it.
Cutting Thomas out of separate felt pieces (which I already had), however, took a bit of work. And sadly, it did not survive beyond Halloween, but I still have most of it intact and tucked away in that shoebox.
This year turned out to be a great Halloween, which is saying much since it was my kids’ first trick-or-treating. I’ve never confessed this on the blog before, but we’re generally not a candy eating family so I thought it’d be tricky. Surprisingly, if it’s part of your household, kids will follow willingly.
Hope you had a great Halloween! I’ve been working on my picture books and looking forward to sharing the process or good news soon!
