I hear stories all the time about how someone was living their daily, unfulfilled or maybe even fulfilled lives, when a calling came knocking at the door.
A few old friends, for example, changed career course after they met a homeless family and decided to devote their money and time into investing in real estate so they could use it to create much-needed affordable housing.
Judith Orloff, MD, who everyone knows as the empath guru, says in her online class that a dream told her to return to school to become a psychiatrist so she could help legitimize intuition in the field of medicine.
Author and Glamour magazine editor Elisabeth Egan shares in another course entitled, “How to Tell Your Story,” that she was about to turn forty in an unfulfilling job and unsure of what to do next when she saw a horse in a parking stall. She realized she was like that horse trying to be a car when it was a horse. At that moment, she had an epiphany that she was a creative person that needed to be in a creative career.
“I started thinking about how that horse would get out of the garage. And I knew he wouldn’t climb into the elevator and just sail up to the street level. I knew that he would have to put one foot in front of the other and walk up all the ramps to get out of the garage…I made a resolution in that moment to also put one foot in front of the other and get out of this job and in this life where I really wasn’t happy and to find a way to be creative and to be in the sunny world where I belong and for me writing really was the thing that saved me.”
