Finding purpose in climate action.

The Key to Helping the Earth and Living a Long Life

This blog was created because I was working at a job that was stealing the life out of me. For over a decade, I’ve been posting here and the blog has kept me going. It helped me 1) stay in a job I hated until I had the courage to quit 2) helped with my transition into a writing job 3) landed me my first freelance writing jobs 4) garnered hope from the inspiring people I interviewed 5) While I never allowed paid ads on here or invited sponsored posts, this blog has fed me alongside of my career, gave me a platform and garnered the attention of editors

Some days a thousand of you have read this blog. Even though it isn’t millions, I can’t imagine that so many people I’ve never met tune in here to read what I have to say. That’s inspiring to me.

While I’ve shifted this blog to writing about climate, I have a found a link between my old viewers and new ones. In a 2024 study in Psychology and Aging, researchers analyzed a 23-year old study and found that life purpose predicts longevity slightly more than life satisfaction. This means that while we cannot save the world and work on every issue right now, we can work on the ones that give us meaning. Especially in the second half of our lives, finding purpose gives us not only a reason to live, but it helps us to live longer.

I recently took an online course from Omega Institute called, “Transform Your Career: Connect With Your Inner Child to Guide Your Future.” A lot of what career coach Elizabeth Pearson said was things I’ve learned as a life purpose coach.

1. Don’t stay in soul sucking jobs.

2. Don’t believe in the myth that you won’t make money doing what you love.

3. Find your purpose by following your inner child.

4. Spend more time in high energy emotions like joy, optimism and hope and less in more lower energy emotions like hate, anger, and sadness.

5. Devote time to play.

Maybe you are here because the current chaos of our government is creating a sense of instability and fear, and you feel called to do something. If so, you are not alone. I think this is happening for a reason. For most of my life I’ve had the luxury of tuning out of the news and being unaware of what’s happening in our government. While it was nice to think of life purpose in the past, now we are being called. This administration is dismantling everything, hurting everyone, and affecting the majority of Americans. This is a wake up call for all of us.

This might mean protesting, boycotting and volunteering to help organizations that are suffering right now. It might mean taking a serious look at our careers and seeing if it aligns with our values. This happened for a reason. Apathy allows for cruelty, destruction and extermination of groups of people.

We cannot allow it. We cannot stand by and allow ourselves to go extinct.

Every movie, every book, every story starts with an inciting incident where the main character is being called to action. We are all being tested. What will you choose to do?

I am continuing to write and will document some of the actions I am going to take. I am also still open to coaching if you feel like you want to do something, but not sure what’s next. Email me here
