This election has me rattled. As an INFJ, highly sensitive person who cares deeply about the environment, I’m terrified with what the upcoming administration will do to our planet. So much so that I’m changing the topic of this blog, which started a decade or so ago with posts to inspire readers to be creative, to find and fulfill their purpose. I still care about this, but recent events have forced me to rethink my own purpose and how I want to use my experience, skills and passion to leave the world a better place for my kids.
Growing up in Hawaii
I grew up on Oahu and spent many years on the island of Kauai. My grandparents taught me the value of giving back to others, to never take more than you need and that community and family were more important at times than the individual. The US has shifted lot of these earlier values for success, competition and individuality.
We worry about achieving the American dream and forget that we cannot be successful without others. And that happiness, wellness and growth are dependent on one another.
More importantly, none of all the material wants in the world will matter if we don’t have clean air and water, and a safe place to live.
Many people don’t believe in climate change or human’s impact on the earth. I wish I could live out of that place which feels like denial to me. Historically, civilizations and whole species have become extinct because of the environment. Our own selfishness and greed are just speeding up the process.
But I’m not here to preach. I think most humans care about the basic necessities. I believe that Americans care about their children and taking care of the earth doesn’t have to be a divided political issue.
My intent is to use this space to connect with organizations and individuals who are making a difference locally. I’m hoping this will generate ideas that can inspire us all to make a difference where we can.
Anger is an emotion we often run away from or release out into the world with no self-awareness. Anger is often a great motivator for change. I hope you will join me in changing the world for the better. I’m starting here locally, but excited to see what this new chapter will bring to everyone who reads this.
