Finding Your Purpose in a Pandemic and Why It’s Important

The state of the world feels like it’s hanging by a thread.

As I write this, Hawaii is returning to lockdown. We’re reeling from hurricanes, the shock of the Lebanon explosions, increasing numbers in our state and around the world. All the protests. The unnecessary deaths.

It’s enough to make any of us feel the weight like the world is imploding on itself. Panic and anxiety are not just for those sensitive to mental illness.

And yet, there are some who are thriving right now. There are people that I know making 6 figure incomes for the first time. Others are rediscovering parts of themselves or learning to forgive themselves and others.

Personally, it’s given me the courage to push forward towards my dreams. I’m interviewing authors. I’m being interviewed. I recently received the honor of being a 2020 PBChat Mentee.

Yes it’s hard right now. And you have every right to grieve with everything we’ve lost. But I don’t want you to stay there because not only do I believe this is the time to find your purpose in life, but I believe that doing so will get you from the funk we’re all in.

What if the thing you were meant to do would not just help you, but others?

What if the one thing you were gifted with is the thing that’s needed most right now?

What if holding back is keeping you anxious or depressed or stuck?

I believe that the thing you most love is the thing that will set you free.

This can be a terrifying moment of the unknown, but it can also be a visceral reminder that life is temporary. We have one life. We have this one moment when everything is shut down and closed to make a difference.

For me, interviewing authors and working on articles of hope is what motivates me. It keeps me going. It reminds me of what I can control. That when the world feels out of control, is everything.
