Pineapple Cozy

While it’s too hot to think of hot drinks, I’ve been itching to replicate a felt cozy like I did for a friend’s gift last Christmas. The desire came from the pain of either burning my hand on a coffee cup or from using those cardboard ones for a second and then throwing it out.

I hate how we mindlessly use materials that end up in our landfills. It’s one thing to use something that we love for years. It’s quite another to toss it after a New York minute.

Since pineapples are so in these days, I decided to make my own. A simple drawing on felt, a needle, some thread and velcro turned into this. Yes my hand stitching needs work, but I think he’s cute and I’m keeping him.

What are you working on this summer?

{Here’s the before I almost hit blood while sewing on the velcro.}

Here’s the little guy after.

If I don’t stab myself too much, I’ll be making more while working on my children’s stories.

What are you working on this summer? Also, I’m obsessed these days with podcasts. Cued up now is anything from SoundsTrue, Kimberly Snyder, Writing for Children with Katie Davis and Tim Ferris. Anything you’re loving right now?
