I ask who do you want to be not what do you want to accomplish in the new year because I just listened to inspirational speaker and bestselling author Danielle LaPorte talk to Tami Simon from Sounds True.
In the recording she discussed a novel idea. Instead of writing a to-do list (a.k.a. New Year’s Resolutions), why not dream up how we want to feel?
This resonates with me because I’ve already done what’s typical on one of those lists-I’ve been to Paris, lost 10 pounds, and bought a house.
While those things feel great and have had an impact on my life, they are not from my core list of wishes. In other words, if I only had a few weeks to live, I wouldn’t miss them.
What I think most of us want, however, goes deeper.
We want to feel loved.
We want to feel valued.
We want to feel inspired.
We want to feel alive.
We want a meaningful life.
The key LaPorte says is to dream up what we can do this week or better yet, this moment to make these things a reality in the new year.
This year, I just want 4 things:
1) I want to be more spiritual.
2) I want to create.
3) I want to inspire others and be inspired.
4) I want to give and receive love to feel a greater sense of connection and belonging to my family, friends, community and other like-minded peeps.
What do you want to be and feel in 2014?
