My Most Inspiring Story

What happens when you neglect something as meaningful as a calling is it refuses to be ignored, tossed away and forgotten. It oozes out when we’re unaware, stretching into different avenues of our lives.

I had a secret wish since being coached by this amazing woman to coach others and give them the gift of hope and courage she had given me for years. So I reached out to my social media platforms with an invitation to come on this adventure with me.

I never expected anyone to answer the call, but the person who did ended up being the perfect student. Both of us were new to this coaching experience, her being coached and me being the coach. But we worked well together. She was attentive, and responsive. I used my counseling skills, years of working on my self, and education in mindfulness. But my passion to help her fueled our sessions the most.

But I had a long string of failures this year. I didn’t know if this would be another one I’d have to get over. Every time we met my heart soared. I didn’t know what would come of it, but I knew I enjoyed it. I look forward to being a container for her dreams. I told my husband after each session, “This feels like what I was born to do.”

Like writing, you go in with your heart and then you let go. You never know what the receiver will do with your words. But you do it anyway for the sheer rightness of the pursuit.

We met for only a handful of sessions. But every time we met, she had a story. She ended an unhealthy relationship. Another month, she lost a significant amount of weight. And I saw it in her eyes, a glimmer of hope and excitement that things were changing inside.

Several months later, I received a message from her on Instagram. Her life had changed dramatically since we last spoke. She pursued her dream of moving and taking a job in another state. She said she felt stronger and gained a clearer sense of self from our sessions.

What a gift to be on that journey and witness someone transform into who they were always meant to be!

Currently, I’m reading Stephen Cope’s The Great Work of Your Life, a book that intertwines beautifully composed prose with spirituality, clarity and purpose. In it he says, “It is…the sacred duty of every individual human soul to be utterly and completely itself-to be that jewel at that time and in that place, and to be that jewel utterly. The false self is a collection of ideas we have in our minds about who we should be. Sometimes these ideas-most often planted in childhood-can be so strong that they override our capacity to see who we actually are, or at least to fully embrace it. They become a kind of learning disability. Our capacity to see the world clearly is thwarted…But there is something resilient about gifts: Their light is never fully extinguished. Our gifts are so close to the core of our being that they can never really be entirely destroyed, no matter how deadening the life.”

It’s never too late to fulfill your calling. If this story resonates with you, maybe it’s time to shed your outer false self and embrace who you truly are.

I’d love to be that person on the journey with you. Contact me at bauyemura at gmail dot com so we can get started.
