The Surprising Ways You’re Getting In Your Own Way

You could be doing everything, “right.” You know what your purpose is. You’re doing the work daily, internally and externally, to be a success. But did you know you could still be sabotaging yourself?

Self-sabotage is deceptive. Even if you work on your stuff, it could still creep in on you when you’re most vulnerable.

Check out this list to see if you’re guilty of getting in the way of your own success.

  1. You’re ill-prepared. You have one chance to leave an impression. When the spotlights are on you, have you done enough preparation to outshine your competition on go day?
  2. You’re working too hard. To prevent burnout, setting up boundaries is a must. You might start off ahead of the races, but there’s going to come a time when the work will feel like, well, work. How will you keep going so you can have enough stamina to get through the marathon of your creative pursuit?
  3. Believing that you alone can do everything. Even if what you’re doing requires a lot of you and you time, you still need other people to be a success. This could hiring a financial advisor or editor. It could be finding writing partners, a mastermind group or coach. No man is an island. Eventually, you’ll need to peak out of your shell and ask for help.
  4. You haven’t protected your time. Your time is extremely valuable. At the end of the day, do you feel like your time was well-spent? I’m not asking if you accomplished something every minute. I’m asking whether you were present and conscious of how you were spending your time. Did you follow through with the intentions you had for the day?
