Dear Blog…

Dear blog(s),

I’m writing you this letter to let you know exactly how I feel about you. This has been a long time in coming. We’ve been together for years-7 to be exact! Seven years of an outpouring of emotions, writing to you about everything that’s been going on in my life.

In fact, I knew you before you made it big. I was there for you before all of the glitz and glamour of high-tech. We were old pen pal buds. Remember? That locked Hello Kitty diary and a beat-up yellow pencil. All before you changed your name. My how things have changed!

I have to admit that at times, I wonder if this relationship is one-sided. I talk. You listen. Yet, don’t really know if I’m get anything back.

During those low-times, when that 7 year itch really makes me scratch, I question whether or not I should keep this thing going on.

I mean honestly.  You are a lot of work! Sometimes it’s all work. I sacrifice weekends and lots of late weeknights for you. And I wonder if it’s worth it.

But then, I remember the first time a comment came in. Or a friend said something I wrote here made a difference in their life. No matter how small of an affect, it still made me smile and my heart race. And I fell back in love with you.

I also thought about how much you’ve helped support my career. How you’ve given me confidence to write for newspapers and magazines and how writing here gives me the discipline to practice my craft. And I’m just bubbling with gratitude.

Then, I feel ashamed.

How much you’ve done for me and yet I often take that for granted.

So I guess what I’m trying to say is, “Thank you!” Thank you blog for helping me to inspire others to make a positive change in their life and motivate me to continue to do the same.

I promise I’ll never doubt you again.

Sincerely,

Me.

*Here’s an inspiring tip. When you feel self-doubt, discouragement and despair coming on, write to whatever or whoever is bothering you in a letter. See if wisdom and insight don’t pop up to rescue you from those three depressing sisters.

  1. Great post! I posted something similar today in my blog. I was coming down with the what’s-the-point flu. But I remembered it was the reader/writer relationship that makes this all worthwhile.

    • How funny and so true. Sometimes it feels like I’m writing to a brick wall, but it’s always nice to get comments and feedback to know others are out there listening. Thanks Michelle!

  2. I’m listening, too :)
